PATNA: One of the two prime accused in the alleged kidnapping and gangrape of a 19-year-old student in the city, Vinayak Singh, surrendered before a court in Patna on Wednesday evening. The other accused, Sandeep Mukhiya, is absconding.
According to the FIR, Vinayak had pointed a gun to force the girl into a car at the parking lot of a shopping mall on Boring Road roundabout.
Sandeep drove the car in which she was taken to a flat in Pataliputra industrial area where she was raped by Vinayak. Sandeep had also attempted to rape the survivor, but after she resisted she was later dumped on Boring Road.
“Vinayak surrendered before the court of first class judicial magistrate Madhvi Singh,” Woman’s police station SHO Arti Kumari Jaiswal said.
Police had arrested Kush Kumar and Vikash Singh on Tuesday evening. It was Kush’s rented flat which was used for committing the crime. The victim, in her FIR, had alleged that Kush and Vikash were present when Vinayak had pointed a gun at her.
SHO Jaiswal said the survivor’s statement was recorded before a judicial magistrate on Wednesday. “In the statement, she supported the information which was provided in the FIR,” she added.
The SHO said police suspect that Vinayak and Sandeep may have prior criminal cases against them and investigation is on to gather details on their background. Jaiswal added that medical examination report of the victim is still awaited.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
