SECUNDERABAD: With Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) elections round the corner, the number of aspirants hoping to win a seat has grown substantially.
With former civilian ward members and their kith and kin already vying for a top spot in the poll race, many new faces have also shown keen interest to fight the election. Several aspirants have started interacting with voters to understand their concerns.
Meanwhile, leaders of various political parties have begun to lobby to bag a ticket.

“We do not have any political experience to contest the polls. What is needed is a clear understanding of local civic issues and the will to resolve them,” said a youngster who is hoping to enter the poll arena.
The Cantonment board election is considered by political parties as prestigious and hence, all parties are busy selecting the most eligible candidate to put forward.
For instance, TN Srinivas, who currently serves as chairman of agriculture market committee (AMC), Bowenpally, is a close aide of Secunderabad Cantonment TRS MLA G Sayanna. Srinivas is keen to enter the fray as tenure of an SCB ward member is five years whereas the post of the chairman of AMC lasts only one year. Outlining his plans, he said: “I have decided to contest the SCB elections. I need Sayanna’s blessings.”
Similarly, Anand Babu, who is a close aide of Malkajgiri TRS MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao, and TDP leader Muppidi Madhukar, who is currently a TDP Cantonment coordinator, are likely to contest from ward 1.
While Shravan Kumar of BJP and DB Devender are likely to contest from ward 3, P Narasimha Yadav and Telukunta Satish are keen to contest from ward 4, said sources.
