The Indian High Commission has informed Kaieteur News of its decision to double its scholarship quota to Guyanese, namely its Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) training slots from 24 to 50, with immediate effect. They are capacity building scholarships.
The increase in slots is, according to High Commissioner to Guyana Dr. K. J. Srinivasa, a goodwill gesture due to the strengthening of close and cordial relations between Guyana and India.
India recently celebrated the 55th Anniversary of the ITEC Day on October 11, last year. It was at an event commemorating the occasion at India House that the assurance was made by Dr. Srinivasa that he would with vigour endeavour to advocate for more offerings to Guyana.
He said that it would help to widen the country’s pool of skilled and technically qualified persons in various sectors, in view of its emerging fast economic growth as a Petro-state.
The High Commissioner is urging Guyanese people to go after the available slots quickly, before March 31, 2020. The pool of course offerings is vast. It includes agriculture, irrigation, IT and Telecommunications, finance and accounts, audit, banking, education, planning and administration and parliamentary affairs, crime records, textiles and rural developments, renewable energy, tool design, small enterprises and entrepreneurship development, etc.
Interested persons should visit the ITEC Portal (www.itecgoi.in). Persons applying from the private sector can send applications directly to the Commission. To be eligible, a candidate must be between 25 and 45 years, and should have relevant working experience for the course.
They are also expected to have working knowledge of the English Language and be medically fit to undertake training.
The High Commission has noted that there are difficulties for some persons to attain the general requirement of at least five years continuous work experience at the office which they work for. As such, it has committed to relaxing the criteria under its own discretion, once it is confident that the applicant has the required basic qualification and cumulative experience.

India has for some time been providing scholarships and capacity building support to citizens of countries all around the world. It assists about 160 partner countries, and India considers ITEC as a vital mechanism to share its knowledge and experience with the world.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
