BUXAR: Police on Thursday arrested a youth, Ravi Kumar, in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl at a village under the Itadhi police station area in Buxar district. The two other accused in the case, however, are still at large.
Police said the incident took place on Wednesday when the girl was returning home after attending her coaching classes. Three youths, stated to be co-villagers of the girl, allegedly accosted her on the way, took her to a nearby shed meant for stocking paddy straw and outraged her modesty.
The three fled the spot after tying her hands and feet to a wooden stick.
The family members started searching the girl when she did not return home till late in the evening. On Thursday, locals spotted the girl lying on the heap of straw and informed the family members, who reported the matter to the police. The girl was later sent for medical examination to the sadar hospital at Buxar.
Buxar SP Upendranath Verma said the case was being probed by the women’s police station SHO. SHO of women’s police station Sushila Devi said raids were on to arrest the other two accused. “If they don’t surrender in a day or two, we will move court seeking attachment of their property,” she added.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
