Earlier in the day, Nitish unveiled Chandan irrigation project worth around Rs 57 crore in Chandan block of Banka district.
He asked water resources department and district administration officials to remove silt from Chandan dam to ensure proper storage of water for irrigation purposes.
From Banka, the CM left for Bhagalpur where he inaugurated the renovated Durga Pokhar (pond), intensive sapling plantation and beautification work at Bhulni panchayat.
He also chaired a divisional level meeting for Bhagalpur and Banka districts to review ongoing projects related to JJH and other local issues. Sources said issues related to Bhagalpur, including Bholanath flyover, a bridge proposed to be constructed parallel to Vikramshila Setu, frequent traffic snarls, Aguani ghat bridge and others were discussed by the elected representatives and representatives of other local bodies during the meeting.
Addressing a public meeting later, Nitish deliberated on the importance of safe drinking water, clean air and green vegetation (sapling plantation) for healthy life. “All kinds of pollution are hazardous for humanity. We have endeavoured to restore the groundwater levels by renovating the ponds and rivers in the state. Besides, intensive sapling plantation work is being done for increasing the state’s forest cover in order to check the greenhouse effect due to the pollutants,” he said.

Referring to the seven resolves of the state government, Nitish said his government was committed to making positive changes in the lives of people.
“Liquor prohibition in the state has reduced cases of domestic violence and crime as well,” the CM said. He also spoke on Jeevika initiative as well as steps taken by the government to make villages open defecation free and check stubble burning.
The CM urged the people to join human chain being organized by the state government on January 19 to spread awareness on JJH, liquor prohibition and eradication of social evils like child marriage and dowry.
Nitish was accompanied by JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Kahkashan Parveen, Lok Sabha MP Ajay Mandal, state building construction minister Ashok Choudhary, several other elected representatives and senior officials.
