At least 21 people sustained severe burn injuries in a fire that broke out after a bus collided with a truck near Uttar Pradesh’s Chiloi village on Friday, police said. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze has been controlled, news agency PTI reported.
The number of casualties is not yet known and efforts are on to identify passengers who either escaped or were trapped inside the charred bus, Ravindra Kumar, Dist Magistrate, Kannauj said. “The bus is completely burnt. It is difficult to determine how many passengers were left trapped inside the bus. We have asked for a list of passengers. After getting the numbers, we will be able to ascertain the number of casualties,” he said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured an ex-gratia of Rs 2 Lakh each to families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each as compensation to the injured.
The bus, carrying 45 passengers, was on its way to Jaipur from Farrukhaba. Mohit Agarwal, Inspector General of Police, Kanpur said 21 people have been rescued and admitted to hospital and efforts are on to contact their family members.
The CM has taken cognizance of the incident and asked Kannauj DM and SP to rush to the spot and provide all possible assistance to the passengers. Uttar Pradesh director general of police, O P Singh said it appears that the diesel tank of the vehicle exploded under the impact of the collision.
Our first priority is to rescue the passengers safely and senior officers are present at the spot, the DGP said in Lucknow.
