PATNA: Police on Friday arrested four youths on charges of raping a 26-year-old married woman at a village under the Mansoorchak police station area in Begusarai district, twice on the same day. The woman approached the police on Thursday, six days after the assaults, once her husband returned home from an outstation job.
The incident took place around 6pm on January 3 when the woman, mother of three, was returning home after buying vegetables from a local market.
In her police complaint, the woman alleged that she was waylaid by the four youths – Dheeraj Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Sonu Kumar and Rajan Kumar – who took her to a nearby field and raped her.
The woman’s ordeal did not end there. The four youths forcibly took her to a deserted place behind the Mansoorchak block office, consumed liquor and again took turns to rape her. She was let off late in the evening only after being robbed of her cellphone and Rs 2,000 in cash.
While Dheeraj is a resident of Dashrathpur Kishun Tola, the other three accused hail from Mansoorchak village under the same police station area in Begusarai district.
Teghra SDPO Ashish Anand said the woman was sent to the sadar hospital at Begusarai for medical examination on Friday. “All the four accused have already been arrested. Further investigation is underway,” the SDPO told this newspaper over phone.
The woman lodged the FIR with the Mansoorchak police after her husband, who works as daily wager outside the state, returned home on Thursday.
