Man held for raping minor daughter in Kolhapur

KOLHAPUR: City police on Friday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping his seven-year-old daughter at his residence in the district. Police said that the incident took place on Thursday.
The suspect was produced before a local court on Saturday and is remanded to police custody till Monday.
Police also said that they the medical examination of the victim has been conducted.
“The victim’s mother has lodged complaint against the accused. The incident came to light on Thursday night when the accused allegedly raped the victim and she raised alarm for help. Her mother who was fast asleep in home woke up hearing the noise and rushed to help her daughter. She rescued her daughter from accused’s clutches with the help of neighbours who gathered after hearing victim’s cry. The victim’s mother later lodged complaint with us against the victim’s father whom we arrested on Friday,” said a police officer from Kolhapur.
“A case was registered against him under section 376 (rape) and 377 (Unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of POCSO Act,” he said.
“We are investigating the case in details and are gathering information about the incident,” he said.
