UP approves commissionerate system of policing for Lucknow, Noida

UP government on Monday approved the police commissionerate system, which will be implemented in Lucknow and Noida. Both cities will now get police commissioners. Announcing the decision, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Police reforms were long-needed in the state but lack of political will on part of previous governments did not allow the system to be implemented."

LUCKNOW: UP government on Monday approved the police commissionerate system, which will be implemented in Lucknow and Noida. Both cities will now get police commissioners.
Announcing the decision, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Police reforms were long-needed in the state but lack of political will on part of previous governments did not allow the system to be implemented."
"Both cities will get a police commissioner of ADG rank.
Two IG rank officers and nine SP rank officers will assist the police commissioners in both districts. A woman officer of SP rank will also be posted for women's security and to deal with cases of crime against women. An SP rank officer will be posted for traffic, lighting, CCTV camera installation under Nirbhaya fund," the Adityanath announced.
The CM said that the Police commissionerate system should be implemented in districts where the population is over 10 lakh. In Lucknow, he said, the population is 29 lakh while in Noida district, the current population is around 25 lakh.
In Lucknow, 40 urban and five rural police stations will be covered under the commissionerate system.
