With an aim to giving more powers to the police, the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Monday, January 13, gave its nod to the Commissionerate system of policing to be brought in the economic capital of the state Noida and the state capital Lucknow.
Having convened the cabinet meeting at which the decision was taken, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Lucknow and Noida will have an ADG-level officer as police commissioner who will be given the magisterial powers.
Elaborating on the move, Uttar Pradesh CM said, “Under the new system 40 police stations in Lucknow will be brought under the police commissioner who will have a team of two IGs as joint commissioners, nine SP-rank officials and a lady officer of SP rank along with a lady officer of ASP rank.”
With more powers, including magisterial powers to the police officers, the system aims to bring in better and effective policing.
