Valley boys pull away from FDSH

WEST DES MOINES — The West Des Moines Valley boys pulled away from Fort Dodge with a big third quarter on Monday night, posting a 65-46 victory over the Dodgers.

The game was tied at the end of the first quarter, and the Tigers (6-3 overall) led by just five points at halftime. Valley then out-scored FDSH (1-10) by 11 points in the third quarter to secure its third consecutive victory.

“We really got hurt by their inside presence (6-foot-6 sophomore Eli Raridon, who had 24 points),” Dodger head coach Tom Daniel said. “They were getting early post touches, and there was very little we could do to neutralize that.

“We fouled too much, and continue to struggle with our efficiency at the free throw line.”

Senior Tysen Kershaw had 16 points to pace the Dodgers, who were playing their eighth road contest in 11 games. Fort Dodge’s next seven dates are at home, beginning on Tuesday against top-ranked Waukee.

“Tysen was aggressive and took the ball to the basket,” Daniel said. “We’ve been competing hard these last two games. We can build from that. And we’re looking better offensively, though we’re still not consistent enough. Our defense needs to get shored up. It would just be nice to put together a complete game.”

Fort Dodge faces the Warriors at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
