BENGALURU: With suspense continuing over expansion of the cabinet — an exercise that has dragged on for more than a month now — chief minister BS Yediyurappa appears to have his hands full in trying to pacify jittery legislators who won the byelections.
On Tuesday, K Gopalaiah, Mahalakshmi Layout MLA, met Yediyurappa at his residence in Bengaluru and urged him to expand the cabinet as quickly as possible.
Gopalaiah is believed to have impressed upon the CM the concerns of all 11 legislators, who switched from the Congress and JD(S) and won the bypolls on BJP tickets.
Yediyurappa told reporters that he has cancelled his trip to Delhi and will instead discuss names to be inducted in his council of ministers with BJP national president and Union home minister Amit Shah visits Karnataka. “I have tours in the state scheduled. I will wait for Amit Shah to arrive in Karnataka and discuss expansion here,” said Yediyurappa, attributing the delay on securing the nod from the central leadership to CAA protests in the country. Shah is scheduled to visit the state on Saturday The exercise also appears to have also made the three deputy chief ministers jittery. In Koppal, DyCM Govind Karjol said there has been no discussion on appointing a fourth DyCM. “All this talk of another DyCM is just hot air,” Karjol said. “Still, if you want to believe there is a slot for another DyCM, then you have to ask our central leadership about it. There has been no such talk at the state level.”
However, the three DyCMs are said to be more than willing to share the post with another colleague rather than have all the posts scrapped. “We are certain all of us DyCMs are safe,” one DyCM said.
