Kia Carnival MPV for India gets ready to rival Toyota Innova

Kia Carnival India spec

After a successful start with the Seltos, Kia will now be bringing in the Carnival, which it calls to be a vehicle for the ‘Elite Class’. The luxury MPV will be launched by the company on 5th February at the 2020 Auto Expo. Now ahead of the launch, Kia has revealed key details of the MPV and put all market speculations regarding the vehicle & its specifications to rest. Here is how the India-made Kia Carnival will be loaded, to take on the Toyota Innova Crysta top variants.

Seating Configuration: Kia has confirmed that the Carnival will be offered in multiple seating configuration options. These include 7, 8 and 9-seater configurations. Even in the 7-seater setting, customers will have two different types of seating options. These would include a regular configuration with 4 captain seats and 3 sinking seats, and another variation which Kia calls the ‘7 VIP’ which will have second-row VIP seat for an uber luxurious experience. The 8-seater variant will also have 4 captain seats and 3 sinking seats, and an additional seat on the second row. The 9-seater version will be getting 6 captain seats and 3 sinking seats in the last row.

Under the Hood: As per initial reports, Kia has now confirmed that the Carnival will be drawing power from a 4 cylinder 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine. It will be dishing out commendable 200PS of power and 440Nm of max torque. The engine will come mated to an 8-speed AT unit (which Kia calls Sportsmatic). Looking at the performance figures, it looks like that the powertrain combination shall help the Carnival to deliver a peppy performance. We will be able to comment more upon it once we get behind the wheel though.

Uber Luxurious Interiors: The top-end Limousine trim of the Carnival will be providing customers an experience which would be close to what First-Class Air travel provides. For example, the 10.1-inch dual touchscreen rear-seat entertainment system which comes along with an integrated 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system claims to provide a lounge-like experience to customers. Similarly, the power-sliding rear doors which operate at the touch of a button further provide a luxurious experience to customers. The in-car Smart Air purifier will ensure that the occupants breathe in clean and healthy air.

Trim Levels: The Carnival will be offered in 3 trims, namely Premium, Prestige and Limousine. The base-level ‘Premium’ trim will come with features like touchscreen infotainment, Smart Key, Push Button Start-Stop, Front-dual airbags, ISOFIX seat mounts and rear parking sensors. It will be available in 7 and 8-seater options.

Kia will be offering the ‘Prestige’ Trim in 7-seater and 9-seater options.

The top of the line ‘Limousine Trim’ will be offered in a 7-seater option and will also be getting an option of Luxury VIP seats. Over and above the features of the Prestige trim, the top-end trim will be getting features like Kia’s UVO Connected car pack, Electronic Parking Brake, Driver Seat Ventilation, 10-way powered Driver seat, Wireless Smartphone charger, 10.1-inch Rear Seat Entertainment pack (which we talked about) and a lot more.

Kia will be revealing the pricing and variant-wise details of the Carnival on 5th February, 2020. Post launch, the Carnival will be kick-starting an all new affordable premium MPV segment in India.
