Biathletes Dickson, Campbell finish 11th in IBU Cup race

Emily Dickson of Burns Lake awaits the start of the BMW IBU World Cup biathon women's sprint race last month in Oberhof, Germany. The 22-year-old helped Canada to a ninth-place finish in the women;s relay Saturday at the IBU world championships in Antholz, Anterselva, Italy.

Emily Dickson struggled in her first two rounds of shooting but had her rifle on target in the anchor leg of Wednesday's IBU Cup biathlon race in Bresno-Osrblie, Slovenia.

Dickson of Burns Lake and Carsen Campbell of Bedeque, P.E.I., teamed up to finish 11th out of 23 teams in the single mixed relay.

Coming off her first-ever World Cup experience last week in Oberhof, Germany, the 22-year-old Dickson took the handoff from Campbell to begin the second leg of the relay and needed three reloads to take down her five prone targets. On her second round of shooting Dickson left two targets up and was forced to ski two penalty laps. Carson needed just two reloads in each of his relay segments and tagged Dickson for the final leg. She reloaded once while prone and shot clean while standing, stopping the clock 3:05.5 after Norway crossed the finish to reel in gold. France and Ukraine was silver and bronze respectively.

Dickson and Campbell will now prepare for Friday's sprint races.

Meanwhile, at the BMW IBU World Cup in Ruhpolding, Germany, Emma Lunder of Vernon finished 53rd as the top Canadian in Tuesday's women's 7.5 kilometre sprint, won by Tiril Eckhoff of Norway. Megan Bankes of Calgary was 82nd, Sarah Beaudry of Prince George was 94th and Nadia Moser of Whitehorse, Yukon was 104th out of 106 starters.

Lunder was the only Canadian to qualify for Sunday's pursuit. The Canadian women are entered the 4 X 6 km relay on Friday.

The men's sprint Thursday includes four Canadians - Scott and Christian Gow of Canmore, Jules Brunotte of Sherbrooke, Que., and Aiden Millar of Canmore.
