MUMBAI: Abhay Bajoria and Dhruv Kothari from Kolkata bagged the first and second rank in the final chartered accountancy (CA) exam (new scheme) held in November 2019. Suryansh Agarwal from Noida shared the first position with Bajoria, while Darshan Shah from Ahmedabad stood third in the country. Of the 15,003 students who appeared for the test in both the groups, 15.12% cleared in the exam.
In the old scheme, Gurram Naga Sri Krishna Praneeth, from Vijaywada, topped the final exam in the country.
Varada KP from Mannarkkad in Kerala stood second and Mumbai boy Dhawal Chopda came third in the country in the results announced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on Thursday evening. Varada in the only girl among the seven toppers in the old and new scheme of exam. Only 10.2% of the 8,021 students who took the exam in the old scheme cleared both the groups.
Twenty-three-year old Chopda, a Mulund resident, graduated in law from the Government Law College last year, runs a business and has now bagged the third position nationally in the CA final exams in his first attempt. “I wasn’t expecting a good score as I did not do well in the second group, so the results did come as a surprise to me. I enjoyed my preparation period as I studied with a friend. Both of us motivated each other on days when we felt like giving up and even challenged each other on occasions,” said Chopda. His friend, however, cleared only the first group in this attempt. Though he took the intermediate CA exam in 2015, he waited for his law exams to get over, before appearing for the final exam.
Coming from a family of lawyers, getting into law practice is his natural choice, says Chopda. His grandfather is Retired High Court Justice Rajan Kochar and his mother is a lawyer in the Bombay HC. Chopda wishes to practice in commercial litigation. His father is a homeopath.
