PATNA: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Thursday launched his three-day ‘Pratirodh Sabha’ for Seemanchal region from Kishanganj with a veiled attack on the AIMIM president, Asaduddin Owaisi, who had addressed a rally here recently.
“Some parties are trying to create confusion in Bihar. Their leader (Owaisi) came here and said he is not afraid of Lalu Ji. He should have asked his ally, the Telangana CM, to stop NPR instead of preaching against NRC and NPR across the country,” Tejashwi said.
Tejashwi was addressing a rally at Marwari College in the Muslim-dominated Kishanganj district.
His Pratirodh Sabha initiative is seen as a bid to stake claim on the Muslim votes of Seemanchal as the state gears up for polls later in the year.
The leader of opposition in Bihar also hit out at CM Nitish Kumar on NPR. He said Nitish is trying to fool people by claiming he will not allow implementation of the National Register of Citizen (NRC), but his government is allowing NPR here.
“I am challenging the CM that if he really doesn’t want to implement NRC then he should immediately call a special session of Bihar assembly and pass a resolution that NPR will not be implemented in the state…NPR is the first step for NRC,” Tejashwi said.
On NPR he said, “NPR is a census pro forma in which people will have to tell about the place of birth of their father. Division will start there itself. Hence, we completely oppose NPR and will not allow implementation of NPR as well as NRC in Bihar at any cost. We are ready to give our blood for preventing the division of the country. We will keep fighting.”

It was his first public meet in Seemanchal, which virtually kickstarted his party’s poll campaign from Kishanganj, which saw an AIMIM candidate win in the assembly bypoll held last year. Muslims form the traditional vote bank of RJD along with Yadavs in the state.
The Seemanchal region has a high Muslim population. According to the 2011 Census, Muslims constitute 42.95% in Araria, 38.46% in Purnea, 44.47% in Katihar and the highest in Kishanganj at 67.98%.
In a bid to woo the predominant Muslim population of the region, Tejashwi said “Whenever we talk about shortcomings of BJP-led NDA, they say they will send us to Pakistan. I would like to assert that Muslims of Seemanchal themselves can destroy Pakistan.”
