ARA: Ten cops, including a woman SHO, were injured when bootleggers launched an audacious attack on a raiding police team, which had seized a large consignment of IMFL and arrested several suspects at a village in Bhojpur district late on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, the attackers not only snatched a carbine and an INSAS rifle from the cops, but also fled with the 72 cartons of IMFL seized by the cops.
They also managed to free three suspects arrested during the raid and damaged a police vehicle.
The incident took place at Kaushik Dularpur village during a raid being led by Mufassil SHO Jyoti Kumari, who was injured in the stone-pelting attack. Three cops, havildar Shammi Aalam, homeguard Ram Iqbal and driver Rabindra Kumar, who received serious injuries, are admitted at the Ara Sadar hospital.
Police sources said the police party was outnumbered and came under heavy stone pelting, which left all 10 cops, including SHO Jyoti Kumari, injured.
After the incident was reported, Bhojpur SP Sushil Kumar, along with ASP Ambrish Rahul, ASP (operation) Nitin Kumar, and SHOs of Town and Nawada stations started a massive search operation during which the looted weapons and some of the seized cartons were recovered.
“We have arrested 29 people, including some women, and they are being interrogated. We have also recovered the looted weapons. Till now we have managed to recover 32 cartons of IMFL and efforts are on to recover the rest,” the Bhojpur SP said.
