PATNA: Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh said here on Thursday that even though population growth has so long been considered as a major constraint to India’s developmental process, the demographic dividend may well be utilised for ensuring exponential growth of knowledge resource.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the 4th ‘Knowledge dissemination workshop’ organised by PU Population Research Centre (PRC) at Wheeler Senate House here, Singh said as many as 3.92 lakh babies are born in the world every day out of which 67,000 are born in India alone.

“While ways and means are already being found to check this population explosion, efforts should also be made to develop our country with such a vast population into a land of huge knowledge resource. Fortunately, 67% of the country’s population happens to be youth which can be properly trained to turn our problems into opportunities,” he said.
The directors of all the PRCs, except Jammu and Kashmir, are attending the two-day workshop. Altogether 26 research papers are to be presented at the workshop and a compendium containing 44 papers would be published.
