MUZAFFARNAGAR: A UP police constable, who joined the state police force nine years ago, allegedly committed suicide late night on Wednesday in Shamli district. His body was found hanging from a tree in Shamli’s Police Lines by another on-duty constable.
The deceased constable – Harendra – allegedly committed suicide over a family discord. However, a probe has been set up and the reason behind his death is being investigated.
When informed, his Meerut-based family went into a state of shock.
According to sources, a security guard patrolling Police Lines late night on Wednesday, found the body hanging from a tree. He alerted his superiors, who rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem, after identifying him as constable Harendra of village Laluhera in Meerut, and posted in Shamli district.
According to Shamli SP Veenit Jaiswal, “Based on information we have received, he was taken to the district hospital where he was declared brought dead. His family was informed and his body sent for postmortem.” He added, “It appears that a family dispute was behind the suicide.”
In a similar incident in September 2018, the body of woman constable Anita Singh (25) was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her house in Muzaffarnagar. Police sources said Anita was posted in the City Kotwali police station and was living in a rented house in Saket Colony.
