NEW DELHI: Fourteen cars, including a BMW, were charred in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar in the wee hours on Thursday. The cars belonged to a sale and purchase dealer, who had parked them in an empty plot opposite to the Vivek Vihar police station due to lack of space. Three fire tenders were rushed to the location to douse the blaze.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
The dealer, Vivek Walia, alleged that someone had purposely set the cars on fire.
“There is no way all of them would have caught fire together. These cars were not even covered under insurance,” he said.
According to the fire department officials, a call was received around 2.30am on Thursday about a blaze opposite the Vivek Vihar police station. “The fire engulfed fourteen old cars but no one sustained any injuries in the blaze,” they added.
“Our guard informed us about the fire. We reached there only to see 13-14 cars in flames. We want a through enquiry into this. Cars do not catch fire like this. They were parked at a distance from each another,” said Walia.
The crime and forensic team was called to lift evidence from the spot.
