Sanju Samson, who was bafflingly left out of the T20I series vs New Zealand and ignored for the Rajkot ODI vs Australia, has won hearts with a simple comma.

In Short

  • Sanju Samson was left out of the New Zealand T20Is after playing just 1 T20I vs Sri Lanka
  • Samson has played only 2 T20Is after making his debut in 2015
  • Samson tweeted a comma which went viral within hours

Sanju Samson has every right to be frustrated. The young wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala has been at the receiving end of some perplexing decisions by the Indian selectors in recent months.

After MS Dhoni decided to go on a sabbatical following India's World Cup disappointment in July, India have handed the wicketkeeping gloves to Rishabh Pant in the shorter formats. However, Pant has been far from impressive and his wicketkeeping skills obviously leave much to be desired.

Sanju Samson, considered to be among the most talented wicketkeeper-batsman in the country, was dropped from the series against West Indies. He made it back to the squad for the 3-T20I series against Sri Lanka at home and played the last match - his first in 5 years.

Overall, Sanju Samson has played only 2 T20Is despite making his debut in 2015. Rishabh Pant, meanwhile, has played 11 Tests, 16 ODIs and 28 T20 Internationals since his debut in 2017.

Indian cricketers have resorted to selection heartbreak with cryptic tweets in recent times. Last year, Ambati Rayudu responded to his sacking with a 3D glasses tweet and now Sanju Samson has chosen to express himself with a comma!

Not a full stop, a comma!

And this comma has gone viral with over 11,000 likes and 1.5 retweets.

Rather inexplicably, Sanju Samson was once again dropped for the 5-match T20I series against New Zealand. And when Pant ruled out of the Rajkot ODI with a concussion, what do the Indian selectors do? They called up KS Bharat, a 26-year-old wicketkeeper from Andhra Pradesh.

In the past, Harbhajan Singh has been puzzled by the way the selectors have gone about Sanju Samson. After Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor tweeted to express his disappointment over Samson's omission from the West Indies T20Is and ODIs, Harbhajan Singh responded by tweeting that the selectors were testing his heart and urged BCCI president Sourav Ganguly to bring in stronger people in the selection committee.
