A combined effort from the bowlers after a batting masterclass helped India clinch a 36-run win over Australia in the second ODI in Rajkot on Friday. With the emphatic win in the must-win game, India also levelled 3-match series 1-1. Chasing a mammoth 341, Australia are bundled out for 304 in 49.1 overs. Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav and Navdeep Saini played key roles with a two-wicket over each at crucial junctures.
Steve Smith (98) alongside Aaron Finch and Marnus Labuschagne threatened to take the game away with 62 and 96 runs partnerships respectively but crumbled under the pressure of big run chase. Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan's 96 alongside a 52-ball 80 blitzkrieg from KL Rahul powered India to 340/6. Virat Kohli also played a crucial 78-run knock as India batting order decimated Australia bowlers.

India beat Australia by 36 runs to level the 3-match ODI series 1-1

India skipper Virat Kohli after the match: "We live in the days of social media and the panic button was pressed too early. It's important to not leave someone like KL out. You saw how he batted today. This is probably the best he's played at the international level. The knock showed maturity and class, and we know exactly what we're doing in the dressing room. Important couple of games for Shikhar. He was injured for a long time and in ODIs he's been one of our most consistent and aggressive performers, and he can changed the situation for the team. It augurs well when the two openers are so good together. Rohit's left shoulder has popped out of few times, and he should be good to go in the next game. I asked the bowlers what they wanted to do and they said this was the time to execute the yorkers. All three of them were really good with the yorkers, particularly Shami who changed everything in that over. KL is becoming a multi-dimensional player, and it's really great when players step up like this."

Australia skipper Aaron Finch: "I didn't expect it to be cold. I didn't think I'd need the long-sleeved sweater. I think we were one wicket shy of where we needed to be throughout the bowling innings, but they're world class. Zampa's length has been fantastic so far. The way Smithy started today, and nearly got through to the end, but not quite. Marnus and Smith, the only time they're apart is when they're asleep. I think on these tracks, it's important to capitalize when the batsman gets in. We were always just one more wicket down than what we'd have liked at any stage of the chase and that's when the required rate started getting out of reach."

But a flurry of wickets dented India's charge. Dhawan was unfortunate to get out for 96 while Kohli (78) was once again removed by Adam Zampa, courtesy a brilliant relay catch on boundary line. Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey proved to be disappointments but Rahul was in fabulous touch. Taking on the Aussie bowlers, Rahul hammered them all around the park at a strike rate of over 153. PLAYING XIs:
India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (captain), Lokesh Rahul (wk), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah
Australia: David Warner, Aaron Finch (captain), Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Ashton Turner, Alex Carey (wk), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa

CAPTAINS' TAKE:
Aaron Finch (AUSTRALIA):
We are going to bowl first. It looks like a beautiful wicket, I don't think it's going to change. We had success chasing in the last game, hopefully we can do that today as well. They (the spinners) controlled their length really well. Same team for us.
Virat Kohli (INDIA):
We would've bowled first as well. But the good thing is that there's not much dew factor here. It looks (the wicket) really nice and hard. If we put enough runs on the board, we have a good chance of putting the opposition under pressure. You will be beaten comprehensively by sides like Australia at the International level. It's about understanding what went wrong, not think too much about that game. We need to focus on the positives. We are going to be more brave than the last game, that's for sure. Couple of changes. One forced change; Rishabh is not playing. He's still having that concussion assessment going on. KL will keep in place of him and Manish replaces him. And Navdeep Saini replaces Shardul Thakur.
TEAM CHANGES:
AUSTRALIA: Unchanged.
INDIA: KL Rahul will keep wicket wickets as Rishabh Pant is out with a concussion. Manish Pandey comes in for Pant. Navdeep Saini has replaced Shardul Thakur
TOSS: Australia captain Aaron Finch wins toss, opts to field against India in Rajkot
