AGRA: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that the Sangh’s role in creating public opinion and awareness about the importance of construction of the Ram temple has ended after the Supreme Court’s judgement in the matter. The Sangh supremo also said that shrines of Kashi and Mathura were not on its agenda.
Answering queries from RSS volunteers during a question-answer session on the first day of his four-day visit to Moradabad, he said that it is now up to the government and the trust to start the temple’s construction.
He further said that Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s role, however, will continue till the construction of the temple is started.
According to sources, Bhagwat, who interacted with province (prant) and area (chhetra) office-bearers of Braj, Meerut and Uttrakhand regions, said that Sangh’s interest was limited only to the Ram temple and they did not have the reclamation of disputed religious sites at Mathura and Kashi on its agenda. Around 90 volunteers were present in the session.
Replying to the queries of volunteers over the ongoing protests and nationwide unrest over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Bhagwat reiterated the Sangh’s support to Modi government on the issue, saying that the organisation would not step back on the issue as it is beneficial for people. He also exhorted the volunteers to sensitize people on the Citizenship Act.
Sources told TOI that Sangh volunteers will participate in a rally which is being organised by the BJP in Agra on January 23 to spread awareness about CAA. They said that around 1.5 lakh people will be gathered at Kothi Meena Bazar for the rally to spread the message that CAA was beneficial for everyone.
Talking to TOI, a senior RSS functionary said that Bhagwat emphasised on expansion of the organisation to the basti and mandal level to reach out to every section of the society. He said that Bhagwat wanted to add more good people in the organisation.
