Bihar: Munger man kills wife, three kids & mother, attempts suicide

A 45-year-old man killed his wife, three minor daughters and nonagenarian mother before attempting suicide by jumping from the third floor of the his house in Munger district early on Friday morning. The man, who was undergoing depression, survived and is in treatment but under police custody.

PATNA: A 45-year-old man killed his wife, three minor daughters and nonagenarian mother before attempting suicide by jumping from the third floor of the his house in Munger district early on Friday morning. The man, who was undergoing depression, survived and is in treatment but under police custody.
Police said around 4am Bharat Kesari strangled his wife Asha Devi (40), his daughters Shivrani (16), Shivran (14) and Sonam (12) while they were sleeping.
He then strangled his 95-year-old mother Savitri Devi. All were fast asleep when they were killed. He then went to the third floor of the building and jumped off. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the local primary health centre from where he was referred to the Sadar hospital. He is said to be out of danger.
Haveli Kharagpur SDPO Polast Kumar said Bharat confessed to the crime and said he took the extreme step under duress. “Bharat was very upset after the agreement paper of his shop, Sonam Watch, went missing. The shop was allotted to him a few years ago by the district administration,” he said. He was worried of being evicted from his shop as its lease was to lapse soon, the SDPO said.
