SECUNDERABAD: Residents of Sitaphalmandi division in Secunderabad municipal area could soon see resolution of their water and sewerage problems with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) taking up works worth over Rs 1.2 crore.
Flooded with complaints about water pollution and overflowing of sewage water from residents of seven localities, GHMC officials and Sitaphalmandi GHMC corporator, Samala Hema, on Friday inspected various sites at which works will be taken up in another couple of days.

Orders have already issued to the civic body’s engineering wing to take up the works on priority.
Major works include laying of water supply lines (at cost of Rs 13 lakh) and sewerage lines (Rs 12 lakh) at Kindibasthi, along side sewerage network at Bapanbasthi (Rs 29 lakh), raising of nala slab (Rs 20 lakh) at Friday market, and nala wall raising (Rs 50 lakh).

Areas such as Kindibasthi, Beedal Basthi, Old Kallu compound and St Albus Kindibasthi at Chilkalguda, Upper Basti near Shanthisri Apartment, Basavatarakam Nagar (next to TRS office) will get new water lines.

Sewerage works will also be taken up at areas such as Bapanbasthi, Friday market, and Mahmoodguda.
“With these infra works, locals will get a big relief from water pollution and sewer water overflowing from nalas,” Sitaphalmandi corporator, S Hema told TOI.
“These complaints were noticed during rainy season, and moreover, sewer water also used to enter habitations near nalas. After inspection made with GHMC officials, proposals have been sent to the GHMC to resolve these issues permanently,” she said.
The HMWS&SB and GHMC were given instructions to complete these works within a month, she said.
“In fact, locals have to realise that they should not throw garbage and waste material in the open nala,” said Hema. “To avoid this menace, we are raising the compound walls on nalas.”
Sitaphalmandi residents said that the works are a step in the right direction and will provide them with solutions to issues that have been festering for decades.
“We have spent sleepless nights every monsoon due to sewer water entering into our houses for more than a decade, now we will get a huge relief,” P Raghavendra Kumar, a resident of Mahmoodguda.
