Rohit Sharma hit the 29th ODI hundred of his career and then the 1st in 2020 as India took firm control against Australia in the ongoing 3rd ODI of the 3-match series in Bengaluru. This was Rohit Sharma's 8th ODI hundred against Australia and he equaled his skipper Virat Kohli's record.

With this hundred Rohit Sharma went past former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya to the 4th spot in the list of most individual ODI hundreds. Sachin Tendulkar leads the pack with 49th ODI tons whereas current India skipper Virat Kohli has smashed 43 hundred and is second on the list.

Rohit Sharma also became the second-fastest batsman to reach this feat after Virat Kohli. Kohli reached to his 29th ODI hundred in 185 innings whereas Rohit did in 217 innings.

Also, Rohit Sharma has now become the batsman to hit most ODI (243) and international (415) sixes since his debut. Rohit Sharma surpassed West Indies opener, Chris Gayle, in the elite list.

After Australia posted a 287-run target in the series finale, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were watchful before Rohit quickened the pace. The 32-year-old, who was awarded the ODI cricketer of 2019 by the ICC, looked in ominous touch after a watchful start as he smashed Mitchell Starc for a six and a four in the same over.

Rohit Sharma had reached another milestone in his career as he became the third-fastest to 9000 ODI runs en-route to his 29th century.

Rohit, who was dismissed cheaply in the series opener in Mumbai and then made 42 in the second match at Rajkot, needed just 4 runs before this game to surpass former India skipper Sourav Ganguly and become the 2nd fastest Indian to reach the milestone.

Rohit took just 217 innings to amass 9000 ODI runs while Ganguly had taken 228 innings, Tendulkar (235 innings) and Brian Lara (239 innings). Moreover, Rohit Sharma is the 7th Indian batsman after Mohammad Azharuddin, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli to enter the 9k club.

India meanwhile, are chasing a modest target of 287 in the third and final ODI against Australia after restricting the visitors to 286 for 9 with Mohammed Shami bagging 4 wickets in the series-decider at the M Chinnaswamy stadium. Steve Smith's 131 and 54 from Marnus Labuschagne helped them get to a respectable total.
