GAYA: Twelve assistant professors will shortly be appointed in the postgraduate and undergraduate departments of Urdu in Magadh and Patliputra universities.
Sources said Bihar Public Service Commission has recommended the names of selected candidates for appointment and the VCs and senior officials of the two universities will shortly meet in Patna to work out the division of faculty members.

According to MU VC Prof Rajendra Prasad, appointment of assistant professors of Urdu will shortly be made. “The process is most likely to be finalized this month,” he said.
The BPSC had advertised 17 posts of assistant professor of Urdu in 2014, prior to the establishment of Patliputra University (PPU). Since Patliputra University was carved out of MU in March 2018 and 25 of the 44 constituent and three of the four government-funded minority colleges were tagged with the Patna-based PPU, the posts have to be shared between the two now.
The BPSC has made recommendation for only 12 posts against the 17 advertised. The posts, according to sources, have been slashed at the instance of the state government, which earlier conducted a massive rationalization exercise under which number of posts were revised in accordance with the actual number of students of particular subjects.
Meanwhile, MU is facing acute faculty shortage on account of nearly 60% of the sanctioned posts of teachers lying vacant. On the other hand, it grossly overstaffed in the non-teaching category as the apportionment of nearly 400 non-teaching employees between MU and PPU is yet to be done. The apportionment has to be done in the 55:45 ratio with 55% of the non-teaching employees of the MU headquarters to be transferred to PPU.
Asked about the delay in the relocation of staff, MU registrar Sidnath Prasad Deen said it was for the PPU authorities to explain the inordinate delay in the execution of the apportionment exercise.
When contacted, PPU pro-VC Prof Girish Kumar Chaudhary said the MoU for the apportionment of non-teaching employees was signed long back between the two universities. “The PPU has written several letters to MU authorities for transferring the services of the non-teaching employees as per the provisions of the MoU, but the latter has so far spared only 18 employees,” he said.
