LUCKNOW: Police officers in Uttar Pradesh will get classroom lessons from faculty of Indian Institute of Management-Indore in crowd control and maintaining law and order.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be inked between Uttar Pradesh Police and IIM-Indore on Tuesday. This is the first time that any state police force will partner with Indian Institute of Management for such a training.
The course will assist in beat policing, traffic management and security.
It will also explore ways to improve the efficiency and morale of police personnel and reduce their stress.
Police realised the need for an immediate refresher course in crowd management in the light of the recent face-off between the protesters and police during the anti-CAA protests. For the first time, the crowd was widespread, organised and sporadic.
In the past though, Uttar Pradesh Police has efficiently handled congregation of larger masses at Ardh Kumbh in 2019, and also in the aftermath of Ayodhaya verdict.
IIM Indore director Himanshu Rai, who has also been a faculty member at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and deals with the topic of complex negotiations in societies, will be in Lucknow on Tuesday.
The MoU will be signed between Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh and Rai. The agreement will be for a period of five years.

UP 112 ADGP Asim Arun told TOI that the integration betweenIndian Institute of Management and police would bring a change in overall performance of the forces. For beat policing, apps will be developed and a digital record of cops and their interface with public will be maintained. Innovative ways of patrolling will also be explored, said Arun.
The trainers from IIM-Indore will introduce methods backed by artificial intelligence to control crowds.
"We will also be able to plan and distribute UP 112 patrolling vehicles more efficiently and analyse big data," said the ADG.
The officer added that 100 cops have been chosen from the rank of constable to ADG for participating in a lecture by Prof Rai on Tuesday.
