Capital protest: How Andhra Pradesh assembly area was stormed

The capital region in Andhra Pradesh witnessed violent protests on Monday when the special assembly session was held to give legislative nod for the trifurcation of the capital. Farmers and Amaravati Parirakshana Joint Action Committee (JAC) who gave a call for laying siege to the assembly defied police restrictions and stormed the assembly building through vacant area from all corners. Police lathicharged the protesters and detained them.

Many protesters were injured during the lathicharge and stampede that took place in the altercation with the police.
VIJAYAWADA: The capital region in Andhra Pradesh witnessed violent protests on Monday when the special assembly session was held to give legislative nod for the trifurcation of the capital. Farmers and Amaravati Parirakshana Joint Action Committee (JAC) who gave a call for laying siege to the assembly defied police restrictions and stormed the assembly building through vacant area from all corners.

Many protesters were injured during the lathicharge and stampede that took place in the altercation with the police. Few police personnel were injured as a result of stone pelting by protesters. Though the police held representatives of all opposition parties under house arrest, Guntur MP Galla Jayadev managed to come near the assembly along with farmers.

Tension prevailed at Jana Sena office after the police did not allow party president Pawan Kalyan to come out of the office. After the political affairs committee meeting, Kalyan was going to meet the injured protesters at Yerrabalem village. The police did not allow the workers to come out of the office premises on Monday night.

The police detained the farmers who tried to hit the roads in protest at many places across the capital region. Over 5,000 personnel were deployed in the capital region for bandobust duties. The police also imposed traffic restrictions and allowed only employees with valid identity cards towards the assembly and the secretariat.

Elsewhere, many key TDP functionaries were placed under house arrest in various places across Rayalaseema districts of Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur on Sunday night. Police also stepped up vigil along all national and state highways to prevent the movement of TDP functionaries to Amaravati.
