Manchester City's travel to Sheffield United tonight in a must win Premier League fixture.

City will be looking to bounce back from the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend with a win after slipping behind league leaders Liverpool by 16 points having played a game more.

Guardiola revealed fresh injury concerns ahead of the fixture with John Stones and Benjamin Mendy doubts for the clash against the Blades with muscle problems sustained in the draw against the Eagles.

Aymeric Laporte and Leroy Sane remain sidelined but the former is stepping up his recovery and expected to return to the side in the coming weeks, possibly against Fulham in the FA Cup.

On the transfer front, City have been linked with a sensational swoop for Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes. Reports in Portugal suggest the Blues are interested in the 25-year-old.

Raheem Sterling's agent 'wants' Real Madrid transfer

The agent of Raheem Sterling reportedly wants him to join Real Madrid soon.

That’s according to Sam Lee of The Athletic. Reports emerged in the summer suggesting the England international was a target for the Spanish giants.

Lee told the Why Always Us Podcast:

“I think his agent wants him to go Real Madrid quite soon.

“I don’t think City would ever do that in the summer they sell Sané.

“Maybe in 18 months that could start to be an issue.”

Lawrenson is backing City to leave with three points.

He wrote for BBC Sport:

“Sheffield United will give them a real test - just as they did at Etihad Stadium last month, when City won but the Blades made it very difficult for them.

“But I still think City will have lots of the ball on Tuesday night, and they should create enough chances to win pretty comfortably.”

Javier Tebas says Manchester City must be punished by UEFA for financial 'doping'

La Liga president Javier Tebas is back moaning about City again.

He believes the Blues need to be punished.

Tebas said:

“One of the major issues in European football is related to (financial) doping. Because when we have clubs being financed by states then that has an impact on salaries.

“I think in some cases (UEFA) have dealt with some FFP cases in the right way and for that they should be congratulated but there are two specific cases, Manchester City and PSG, which I think are not being dealt with correctly.”

Guardiola warns City stars ahead of 2020 summer transfer window

Pep Guardiola has told his players that their contracts do not guarantee them a place at Manchester City next season.

“We must improve in the games where we dropped points this season,” said Guardiola.

“We’re not far away. We have played similar to the previous two years, but there have been games where we dropped points this season, where we didn’t in previous seasons.

“I don’t think we need to change a lot in some areas, but adding new players is a possibility.

“Of course I will be watching the rest of his season closely, just as at the same time my bosses have to decide whether I should deserve to be here.

“With my eyes, I look at the players and who deserves to be here and what I need.

“I speak often with the Club but there’s more than four months and we will take a decision after this.

“Everything in football is related to performance - it’s the same for me and the players.”

City 'to rival' Manchester United for Bruno Fernandes

Manchester City are planning to hijack Manchester United’s move for Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes - according to reports in Portugal.

Fernandes has emerged as a January transfer target for United - a complete U-turn from the summer window when United officials became annoyed at the constant links from the Portuguese media.

The MEN understand the Reds are eager to sign Fernandes this month but have been left baffled by Sporting increasing the valuation of their star player.

United risk missing out on his signature if they don’t meet the demands and Correio da Manha claim that Man City could swoop in ahead of their rivals.

The report claims City are willing to spend big to land Fernandes in January and allow him to stay with Sporting until the end of the season.

With the Portuguese media having a bad track record when it comes to reporting on this deal, it’s worth taking the latest report with a pinch of salt given Pep Guardiola is adamant the club won’t spend in January.

David Silva is leaving in the summer but City have a ready-made replacement in Phil Foden waiting in the wings.

Pep Guardiola calls for radical changes after Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane injuries

Pep Guardiola believes football authorities in England will have to consider scrapping the league cup if they want to avoid the injury problems that threaten to derail the hopes of the national team.

Leading English strikers Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford have both been ruled out for the majority of the remaining campaign after playing through the packed fixture list, while Raheem Sterling’s form has slipped from the prolific best he was showing at the beginning of the season.

Manchester City’s manager shared the frustration of his colleagues at United, Tottenham, Newcastle and elsewhere in the league as the fixture pile-up has taken its toll on players. Having voiced his frustration on the situation many times, Guardiola was unafraid to call for those responsible for the welfare of the players to look at what has happened and reflect on the changes necessary to make sure it doesn’t happen again - even if he doesn’t expect it to happen.
