Philip Rivers’ Florida move fuels Buccaneers rumor that’d spark free-agency madness

Tom Brady isn’t the only quarterback churning the rumor mill over a recent relocation.

Over the weekend, Philip Rivers confirmed to ESPN that he and his family have moved from San Diego to Florida, igniting speculation the longtime Chargers quarterback is moving on in more ways than one.

“What this means football wise is to be determined but it was time for us to move back closer to home,” Rivers said in a text, according to Chris Mortensen.

Though Rivers’ shift to the East Coast is family related, as it’s closer to his Alabama hometown, it appears the 38-year-old may be ready for a fresh start with free agency on the horizon, and the Buccaneers may be a suitable option.

With Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston coming off a 30-touchdown, 30-interception season in the final year of his rookie contract, head coach Bruce Arians didn’t sound fully committed to the former first-round pick when discussing him in late December.

“If we can win with this [quarterback], we can definitely win with another one, too,” Arians said at the season-ending press conference.

Winston is reportedly seeking a contract extension worth over $30 million a year, per Draft Network, also noting he’d be “extremely unhappy” being franchise tagged.

Should Winston become a free agent, he would join a potentially crowded market of quarterbacks that could include Rivers, Andy Dalton, Marcus Mariota, Ryan Tannehill, Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, and even Brady.
