Al Sadd strike late to grab full points

Al Sadd rallied from a goal down to register a fighting 2-1 win over Al Khor in the QNB Stars League match at Al Khor Stadium yesterday.

The match was the seventh round match which was postponed due to Al Sadd’s AFC Champions league engagements With this victory, Al Sadd climbed to third place with 24 points.

Al Khor opened the scored very early in the 4th minute, before Nam Tae Hee scored the equaliser for Al Sadd in the 30th, before Akram Afif scored the match winning goal in the fifth minute of injury time.

The beginning of the match witnessed an early goal for Al Khor team through Brazilian Thiago who put the ball past goalkeeper Saad Al Dosari Al Sadd players tried to equalise but attempts by Baghdad Bounedjah, Afif, missed the mark.

Al Sadd kept up the pressure and In the 15th minute, Nam Tae unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area which went close to the goal post.

Al Sadd equalized through Nam Tae, following Hashem Ali’s cross from the right side, which Baghdad controlled and Nam Tee giving the finishing touches by firing into the back of the nets.

Al Sadd came close to taking the lad with a minute left for the first half whistle but Afif’s effort went close to the target.

In the second half, the induction of Hassan Al Haydos gave Al Sadd more attacking options.

However, Al Sadd were denied a goal in the second half with VAR coming to Al Khor rescue as Bounedjah was ruled as offside.

Al Sadd continued to dominate the proceedings as Al Khor were pushed to the defensive mode.

Al Sadd team pressed hard in the last minutes to score the second goal. In the 89th, Afif penetrated from the left side and played a cross that was deflected by Al Khor’s defense in front of the striker Bounedjah but he missed the target.

Finally, Afif score the second goal for Al Sadd in the fifth minute of extra time to give Al Sadd full points.
