Area wrestling roundup: Late pin sends KWLPG past MCM to sweep quad

WHITE LAKE -- Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes capitalized on its home turf after rolling to a 3-0 record in the KWLPG quadrangular on Tuesday.

As the top-ranked dual team in Class B entering the night, KWLPG took down Faulkton Area 72-3, followed by a 53-21 win over Wagner and capped the night by besting McCook Central/Montrose 42-31.

KWLPG took a big lead on MCM, but the Fighting Cougars posted three consecutive wins, but Austin Severson scored a pin against Cade Entwisle in 1 minute, 47 seconds at 220 pounds to secure the win.

Grayson Hanson won all three of his matches at 145 pounds by fall for KWLPG, including first-round pins against MCM’s Will Rotert in 1:47 and Wagner’s Owen Eitemiller in 1:43. Carter Lenz also went 3-0, pinning MCM’s Logan Raap in 48 seconds and Wagner’s Bain Kuhlman in 1:31, while also earning an 8-3 decision against Faulkton’s Parker Geditz at 138.

Wyatt Talbott won all three of his matches by decision, including a 7-1 decision over MCM’s Carter Randall at 132 and a 1-0 decision against Wagner’s Bradyn Lhotak. At 106 pounds, Kasen Konstanz scored two pins and a technical fall.

MCM finished 2-1 with a 43-32 win over Wagner and a 66-6 win over Faulkton Area as Mason Pulse paced the Fighting Cougars with three wins -- a major decision, decision and a pin. Pulse was able to pin KWLPG’s Holden Havlik in overtime at 152.

At 170, Blake Gessner pinned Wagner’s Nolan Dvorak in 1:56, while handing KWLPG’s Spencer Hanson his only loss on the day with a 14-5 major decision. Jacobi Krouse also went unbeaten, winning by fall and two decisions at 182 pounds.

Wagner finished the dual 1-2, capping the day with a 51-18 win over Faulkton Area. K.J. St. Pierre pinned all three of his opponents on the day at 220 pounds, including wins over MCM’s Isaac Pulse in 1:27 and Faulkton’s Teigen Hadrick in 59 seconds. Lance Soukup scored two decisions and a forfeit, edging MCM’s Jackson Remmers 4-1 and KWLPG’s Chase Varilek 7-0.

Winner sweeps Valentine (Neb.) triangular

VALENTINE, Neb. -- Winner Area crossed the Nebraska border and came home with a pair of wins at the Valentine triangular on Tuesday.

The Warriors posted eight pins to take down O’Neill (Neb.) 57-21 and then followed with a 45-22 win over Valentine (Neb.).

Kaleb Osborn (113), Kaden Keiser (126), Aaron Gilchrist (132), Jack Kruger (145), Trevor Peters (152), Sam Kruger (160), Joey Cole (170) and Preston Norrid (220) all won by fall against O’Neill.

Osborn had two first-round pins on the day, taking down O’Neill’s Zachary Osborne in 48 seconds and Valentine’s Cayden Lamb in 1:35. At 132, Gilchrist pinned O’Neill’s Lio Dominguez in 1:53 and Valentine’s Tobin Olson in 3:55.

Peters also had two pins on the day at 152, topping O’Neill’s Levi Drueke in 2:45 and Valentine’s Drake Janssen in 4:50. Sam Kruger followed up a pin against O’Neill with a 3-1 decision over Valentine’s Chase Olson at 160, while Norrid pinned Valentine’s Jayce Anderson in 3:06 to finish with two pins on the day.

Keiser suffered his second loss of the season to Valentine’s Chris Williams in a 12-8 decision.
