Good night everyone

By Damien Ractliffe

Thanks for joining our live coverage for day three of the Australian Open.

Madison Keys has also just won her second-round match on Rod Laver Arena against Arantxa Rus, 7-6, 6-2.

Join us again tomorrow when we take you through day four of all the action at Melbourne Park with Nick Kyrgios, Rafael Nadal, Karolina Pliskova among the big names in second-round matches.

Game, set, match Fognini

For the second time this tournament, Fabio Fognini survives an epic five setter.

What an incredible match. Jordan Thompson was down two sets to love and took it as deep as it gets.

But the 12th seed survives, and is through to the third round. Fognini will next play Argentine 22nd seed Guido Pella.

Five match points

Fognini holds and he now leads 9-4 with five match points.

That was after he was called for a foot fault! The drama has been endless.

Net, AGAIN

What a waste after Jordan Thompson had a second serve return smash straight into the net.

They'll change ends at 8-4. Fognini has the next service point.

Down two minis

It's beginning to slip away for Jordan Thompson, who has again found the net in a rally.

He's down 7-3 with one service point to go...

Make that 7-4, after Fognini goes long. The Italian holds two mini breaks.

Thompson holds, still down

"One of the best points of the match so far" had Fabio Fognini running all over the court and he nearly pulled off an incredible save.

Instead he finds the net. Scores are 4-3, Fognini still up a mini break...

And the Italian holds after Thompson loses his composure, finding the high part of the net in another winner attempt. 5-3 Fognini. And he holds again. 6-3 Fognini.

Next two serves are Thompson's.

Back down a mini break

They'll change ends at 4-2 after another unforced error by Jordan Thompson.

Remembering, it's first to 10 points, so this is far from over!

Mini break to Fognini

So Thompson slips down 2-1 after his lavish winner attempt misses by millimetres.

Thompson was celebrating but the chair umpire had to inform Thompson that the umpire had called it out. The Aussie unsuccessfully challenged and has no reviews left...

Then Thompson gets back that mini-break! Back to 2-2. And Fognini holds his next point, 3-2 on serve...

First blood Fognini

Jordan Thompson goes after a backhand winner but misses. The pair shared a long rally of crosscourt backhands but the Aussie blinked first...

But Thompson backs that up with a strong serve. It's 1-1...
