Tom Hanks has been left red-faced after he was forced to deny claims that he supports cannabis oil.

The Hollywood star, 64, slammed the cannabis company called CannaPro CBD for advertising with a fake endorsement quote next to a 2016 picture of the two-time Oscar winner.

Taking to Twitter to defend himself, the 'Castaway' actor assured his 30 million fans that he doesn't support the use of drugs.

He wrote: "This is false and an intentional hoax."

"I've never said this and would never make such an endorsement. Come on, man!"

The unrealistic advert which features Hanks' face above reads a 'fake' statement from the 64-year-old.

It begins: "The advances Doctor Oz has made in the CBD industry are remarkable".

"I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't of gotten the chance to try it out for myself."

It continues:" After using CannaPro CBD for the past two weeks, I feel like a new man".

Although Tom didn't find the whole scenario in the least bit funny, his celebrity friends couldn't get enough of his misfortune.

'The Holiday' actor and much-loved comedian Jack Black was one of the first to comment under the fabricated ad, as he wrote:

And American Tv personality and journalist Katie Couric commented:
