A popular musical duo are set to return to Rutherglen next week.

The Blue Moon Travellers are to headline the first Acoustic Nights at the Meeting Place gig of 2020, taking place at Stonelaw Parish Church next Friday, January 31.

The dynamic duo comprise of Jim Bowers and Sheila McWhirter, who hail from Edinburgh and Oban respectively.

They are experienced and seasoned performers, having performed in a variety of line-ups and genres over the years, and have been praised for their warm, emotional and honest vocals and sensitive guitar accompaniment, coupled with first class songwriting.

The pair are both top class musicians and bring a great combination of humanity, humour and emotional engagement to their performances.

They have already released one album, Into The Blue, which has themes of love, loss, longing and of course, travelling,

These original compositions draw from folk, jazz, and contemporary new acoustic musical styles, and they will be performing several of the record’s songs at the Rutherglen gig.

The record drew praise from several critics and bloggers, with a review in the Argyll Music Scene which stated: “What a beautiful piece of work it is.

“Essentially an acoustic duo they expand on their instrumentation introducing bass, drums, cello and harmonica into their recordings.

“With elements of folk, soul, funk and rock the songs really do shift in pace throughout the album and instantly you are drawn to the amazing vocals and guitar playing.”

A writer for the Hypercoaster Music website said: “Sheila and Jim certainly are top class musicians and know how to deliver a song with musical sensitivity and emotion.”

Support next Friday will be provided by the Mairs Family Band and Robert Dalgleish.

The entry fee is a £5 donation, with no cost for children. Hot refreshments and home baking will also be available.

Doors open at 7pm and the show will begin at 7.30pm.
