PUNE: The Yerawada police on Thursday arrested two college students and detained their minor accomplice for robbing the smart phone of a car driver from Aurangabad. The incident happened near Gunjan talkies chowk here around 4.30pm on Tuesday.
The driver Afsar Sharfuddin Shaikh (36) from Beed bypass in Aurangabad district had come to Pune for some work.
“Afsar left for Aurangabad from Pune when he stopped at a eatery stall for having a cup of tea.
Three men riding triple seat on motorcycle came from behind and charged at the driver and one of them robbed his smart phone and sped away,” said senior inspector Yunus Shaikh in-charge of the Yerawada police station on Wednesday.
Shaikh told TOI, “Afsar raised an alarm when a beat marshal passing from Gunjan chowk chased and intercepted the students and brought them to the police station for taking action. The motorcycle used in the crime was seized.”
“The students of standard XI are studying in different colleges. They are known to each other and investigations have revealed that they had randomly snatched the driver’s phone but they ran out of luck after they were taken into custody by the beat marshal,” he added.
An offence under sections 392 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
