Manchester United lineup vs Burnley: Team news and starting XI today

Victor Lindelof is out of tonight's clash between Manchester United and Burnley after being sent home from training on Tuesday.

The centre-back was suffering from illness and drove away from Carrington after just 15 minutes being assessed by the club’s medical staff.

Eric Bailly is back from a serious knee injury, but is on the bench as Phil Jones starts alongside Harry Maguire.

Man Utd are also threadbare in midfield and attack after injuries to Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford, with Juan Mata, Dan James and Anthony Martial starting in attack.

There is only room for Mason Greenwood on the bench, while Rashford will be out for up to three months after suffering a double stress fracture of the back - but Solskjaer has defended his handling of the England striker, despite admitting the player had complained of discomfort after the win against Burnley on December 28.

The Norwegian said: “He will be out for a while. He’ll get the time he needs to recover. He’s not had that injury before. He complained a little bit after Burnley. He felt it the first time, and we managed him as well as we could then.

“Then he had some days off for treatment, taken off in games and suddenly this was a new injury. He didn’t have any injuries before then.

“He wants to get back as quickly and safely as possible and we’ll give him that time. When he feels ready and medically cleared he’ll be back.”
