2 surveyors escape attack in Birbhum
Suri: A mob gathered at the house of two women engaged in a digital literacy programme — Internet Saathi — at Amba in Birbhum’s Margram area on Thursday, on suspicion that they were collecting data for NRC. The incident took place just a day after the home of another woman working for Internet Saathi was set ablaze in Gourbazar.
However, this time a large force led by senior police officers rushed to Amba and intervened on time to prevent the mob from attacking the house.
The situation was brought under control and the mob dispersed.
Four persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the Gourbazar arson. Victim Chumki Khatun and her family had been forced to take refuge at the local Mallarpur police station.
The district administration has started an awareness campaign to inform people that such data collection is not related to NRC.
