MGM gets MCI nod to run its first superspeciality course

INDORE: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College on Thursday got approval of Medical Council of India for starting its first superspeciality programme in paediatric surgery.
In a letter to MCI, MGMMC said that the board of governors in a meeting held on January 13, had agreed to issue letter of permission to start two seats for Master Of Chirurgiae (M Ch) in paediatric surgery at MGMMC from academic session 2020-21.
The council has asked the college to furnish essential documents along with bank guarantee within a month. In December, 2019, a three-member team of MCI inspected facilities available at the college and hospital for beginning the course.
MGMMC Dean Jyoti Bindal said, “It is a historic moment for MGMMC. For the first time, MGMMC will start a superspeciality programme in paediatric surgery.”
The college had also sought permission for running a super-speciality programme at neurosurgery. “We have also sought approval of MCI for running one more superspeciality programme at neurosurgery department. Inspection for it has already been done,” Bindal said.
MCI has also given its approval for increasing number of MBBS seats from 150 to 250, including 30 seats under EWS category. With the increase in number of MMBS seats, MGMMC has become the first medical college of Madhya Pradesh to have maximum 250 MBBS seats.
MGMMC is largest government-run medical facility of central India. It was established in 1948. MY Hospital and other hospitals associated with the medical college caters to the need of lakhs of people every year.
