As the field of Republican primary opponents against Democrat-turned-Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) dwindles, Robert Patterson is remaining in the race.
“He’s staying in,” said Patterson spokesperson Nachama Soloveichik. “Patterson is the only real conservative in the race.”
Brian Fitzherbert dropped out of the race this morning, and there is intense speculation that former Hill International CEO David Richter will switch to the 3rd district race and challenge Rep. Andy Kim (D-Marlton).
If Richter exits the 2nd district, it could set up the two-candidate race Patterson wants. That would give the former Trump administration official a chance to contrast Van Drew’s record as a Democratic state legislator and congressman.
Almost certain to come up in such a campaign: Van Drew’s 100% rating by Planned Parenthood, and the freshman congressman’s opposition to President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall.
Van Drew’s positions on those issues, of course, could change.
Soloveichik said Patterson will be in Wildwood for Trump’s Keep America Great rally next week for Van Drew, but will likely spend his time seeking the votes of Trump supporters remaining outside the convention hall once it fills to capacity.
Great Hope it’s head to head Bob vs Jeff And Bob will win
