PUNE: A 40-year-old tractor driver was killed after a stone came under one of the tyres of his speeding vehicle. He lost his balance and fell off it to eventually be run over by his vehicle at Yeolewadi in Kondhwa around 11.30am on Thursday.
The driver was transporting garbage and was driving the tractor at a high speed, the Kondhwa police said, while identifying the deceased as Pandurang Laxman Gaikwad of Yeolewadi in Kondhwa.

“Gaikwad had picked up the garbage from various places in the Kondhwa area and was heading to a closed quarry to dump the waste there,” assistant inspector DK Pawar of the Kondhwa police said.
Pawar said Gaikwad was speeding while he was passing a kaccha road gradient, where his tractor’s wheels went over a stone.
Pawar added that the impact of the accident was such that Gaikwad flung into the air .
When he fell on the road, his vehicle ran over him, killing him on the spot.
“The tractor ran amock for a few metres and stopped after it ascended a stone,” the assistant inspector said.
The Sassoon General Hospital in its advance post-mortem report certified the cause of Gaikwad’s death due to multiple injuries.
“We have registered an FIR against the victim Gaikwad after the investigations revealed that he himself was responsible for causing his death due to negligence,” Pawar said.
The assistant inspector of the Kondhwa police added that an offence has been registered against Gaikwad under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
