Telangana Municipal Election Results 2020 Today Highlights: January 22 had witnessed elections to 120 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations and as per latest trends, it indicated that TRS was set to make a clean sweep in the urban local body elections today.

Telangana Municipal Election Results 2020 Highlights: Hours after celebrations broke out at the headquarters of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), state Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) urged the Opposition to respect the mandate given by people, warning otherwise “democracy will lose its value”. While addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan, he raised the CAA issue and appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rethink the contentious citizenship law. “I’ll hold a conclave of like minded CMs, regional party leaders to oppsose the amended citizenship law,” he added.

January 22 had witnessed elections to 120 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations and as per latest trends, it indicated that the party was set to make a clean sweep in the urban local body elections today.

The ruling TRS is leading in 101 out of 120 municipalities and was leading in 30 others. It also won six of the nine Municipal Corporations and was leading in remaining four. Congress and BJP gave a tough fight but ultimately the TRS candidates won across the state. According to the results declared in 1542 wards at 3:30 pm, TRS leads with 945 wins, Congress follows with 295, BJP with 111. Meanwhile, Independents have secured victory in 116 wards, 6 and 4 wards respectively to CPI and CPM, whereas, AIMIM won 39 wards.

KCR unstoppable as TRS heads for landslide win in Telangana municipal elections

Decimating the opposition parties in the Municipal body elections, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is closing in towards yet another impressive one-sided victory. Among 3,535 wards in urban local bodies which went to polls on January 22, TRS comfortably won over 1,600 wards replicating the party performance of the 2019 general elections where it secured 88 out of the 119 assembly segments, or even winning 101 seats in the 150 wards of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls in 2016. Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) addressing the media, asked Opposition to respect the mandate given by the people to the party, warning otherwise "democracy will lose its value".

TRS is set to win big in the Municipal elections, the counting for which will end soon. Appealing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rethink the Citizenship Amendment Act, he said that he would hold a conclave of like minded CMs, regional party leaders to oppsose the amended citizenship law.

'Urban local body poll results,people's endorsement of TRS govt'

The results of the urban local body polls in Telangana showed the people's endorsement of the welfare and development programmes carried out by the state government under Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's leadershp,TRS working president K T Rama Rao said on Saturday. 'The people of Telangana have once again demonstrated that they stand by TRS, whatever is the election. They have rejected the false campaign of opposition parties in the municipal polls,' Rao, the state Municipal Administration Minister and son of the Chief Minister said in a statement. (PTI)

TRS is leading in 945 out of 1542 wards where results have been declared

According to the results declared at 3:30 pm, for 1542 of the 3535 wards across Municiapalities and Municipal Corporations, TRS is leading with 945 wins, Congress follows with 295, BJP with 111. Meanwhile, Independents have secured victory in 116 wards, 6 and 4 wards respectively to CPI and CPM, whereas, AIMIM won 39 wards.

TRS leads in 101 out of 120 municipalities

The Telangana State Election Commission has officially announced results for 529 of the 3535 wards so far. TRS has won 337 wards, Congress-94, BJP-35, AIMIM- 20, Independents-34, Others-5, CPI-2,  TDP-1,  CPM-1. TRS is also leading in 101 out of 120 municipalities, and 6 out of 9 municipal corporations.

Celebrations began at Telangana Bhavan, the headquarters of TRS as results indicated that the party is headed for a clean sweep in the Municipal elections. Why were elections to Karimnagar Municipal Corporation put on hold?

The Telangana State Election Commission had issued a fresh notification for elections to the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar on January 24. The notification was issued after a division bench of the Telangana High Court set aside the order of a single-judge bench who had stayed elections to Karimnagar Municipal Corporation. Counting of votes begins

Counting of votes for elections to 120 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations in Telangana began at 8 am.

The election to the municipalities and nine municipal corporations was held on January 22, with a voter turnout of 70.26 per cent. Meanwhile, the voting for 58 wards of the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation was held on January 24 and a voter turnout of 62.18 per cent was recorded.

After the polling ended on January 22, TRS leader and MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said the TRS party would win over 90 percent of the seats as voters have turned up for the election in large numbers.

Meanwhile, state BJP president K Laxman accused the ruling TRS party of misusing power blatantly to influence the voters.

For the first time in the country, the facial recognition technology was used on a pilot basis to verify and authenticate a voter's identity at 10 select polling stations in the Kompally municipality.

According to officials, as many as 7,007 voters in these polling stations were subjected to facial recognition.

TRS working president and minister KT Rama Rao, who was participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos, returned home Friday night, a day before the results.

He tweeted: "Landed back in good old Hyderabad. Looking forward to tomorrow’s Municipal election results. Reports indicate that @trspartyonline will do well but keeping my fingers crossed".
