HYDERABAD: The Osmania University (OU) will now evaluate PhD thesis submitted by research scholars from all departments online following an online evaluation system launched by examination branch on Friday.
The move comes nearly a year after the university piloted onscreen evaluation system for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The new evaluation system launched by the examination branch will not only enable students to submit their final PhD thesis but will also help them keep track of its progress.
“After clearing their thesis through plagiarism software, the students will have to submit a soft-copy on the website.
Evaluators will have access to the thesis being uploaded on the website through which they can commence evaluation,” said Prof Sriram Venkatesh, controller of examination, OU.
The university receives nearly 400 thesis on an average every year. The system is likely to speed up the evaluation process as evaluators would no longer have to physically check dozens of hard-copies. The website will address postage delay, reduce use of paper stationary and students visits to the examination branch for regular updates. While supervisors can concentrate on evaluation, scholars can plan career in advance during the process.
For the next six months, the university will provide both online and offline evaluation of PhD thesis before it completely shifts to the online version.
It may be recalled that in 2018, the examination branch had launched a similar PhD thesis online monitoring system which helped research scholars and supervisors know the status of thesis evaluation from time to time. “The monitoring system launched back then could not take off due to some technical errors. This time, we have integrated several processes such as selection of PhD thesis by supervisors, generation of final certificate etc.,” said Prof Venkatesh.
