SECUNDERABAD: Night restrictions have been imposed on four arterial roads — Gough Road, Wellington Road, AOC Road and Entrenchment Road—at AOC Circle in Secunderabad Cantonment, from 10pm on Friday to 6am on January 27. Road closure will also to apply to Bolarum military establishment from January 24 to January 27.
A high security alert by Ministry of Defence (MoD) ahead of Republic Day led to the road closure forcing over 1.5 lakh commuters to look for alternate routes.

The defence PRO wing released an official statement of Friday attributing the closure to the alert issued across the country and to the fact that military establishments could be potential targets of anti-national elements.
“However, ambulances or emergency medical cases, will be permitted after proper check and verification,” the official statement said.
Based on official communique from the MoD, the local military authority (LMA) has made arrangements to implement the night restriction. LMA has set up notice boards on the four civilian roads and deployed army personnel at various points.
A daily average of 1.5 lakh commuters from Safilguda, Neredmet, Sainikpuri, Yapral and adjoining areas use the four arterial roads under closure. The four-day road closure will force commuters to make a detour of at least six to eight kilometres.

Commuters said that the LMA should have announced the closure in advance.
“We welcome the decision of road restrictions in view of national security. But LMA must alert people at least two days in advance. They must issue a detailed notification including names of the roads, time of closure etc. Only then can people make alternate arrangements,” said Amarender Reddy, a resident of Safilguda.
K Harshini, a techie from Neredmet who works in Gachibowli said, “Army personnel must allow women commuters who work till late in the night to use these four roads. They must allow us to pass through after checking our employee Id cards, keeping in view the issue of women’s safety.”
The LMA requested civilians to cooperate with military authorities by abiding by the road closure restrictions.
