Purnia administration launches ‘Kitab Daan’ campaign
PATNA: The Purnia district administration launched a ‘Kitab Daan’ campaign on Saturday to encourage the practice of donating books for building libraries in the government schools of Purnia.
As part of the campaign, whose tag line is ‘Donate a Book, Shape a Life’, over 500 books reached the collection centre on Day 1. In fact, more than 50 people, including some from foreign countries, also sent messages on social media platforms like Facebook and expressed interest in donating books.
The administration has targeted to collect approximately one lakh books by March-end so that libraries in government schools can be made functional from the new academic session on April 1.

District magistrate (DM) Rahul Kumar, who donated altogether 57 books, said people living in other towns, states or countries could send books directly from online suppliers.
“At first, all government schools will be told to include a weekly library period in their schedules. It will be made a daily affair after some time,” the DM told this newspaper and added that reference books, biographies, autobiographies, novels or motivational literary works could be donated.
A donor will get a certificate signed by the DM and his book will have a sticker with his name on the first page.
