A four-year-old boy has died days after being accidentally shot by a gun which was tucked into his dad's pocket.

Tripp Shaw was play wrestling with his dad Tyler on a bed when the handgun fell and fired a shot, according to reports.

The bullet is believed to have struck both the father and son in the head at the family home in Bloomington, Indiana.

Tripp was taken to hospital in a critical condition and sadly died four days later, according to local reports.

His dad was also taken to hospital but is expected to recover.

A fundraising page was set up to help Tyler and his wife Natalie, who have two young daughters, cover medical costs.

Yesterday, a post on the page said: "It is with great sadness that I update the Tripp passed away yesterday morning.

"Little Tripp passed away peacefully, surround by those who loved him the most.

"Please give the family time to process this & grieve. Continue to pray for Tyler, Natalie, the girls and the extended family.(sic)"

A gofundme page has been set up for the family (

A statement on the gofundme page says: "It takes a village to help through an accidental tragedy.

"The Shaw family has been through so much in this situation. This GoFundMe is the least we could do to help with the financial stress.

"Please continue to pray for our friends & their family during this difficult time."

Officials have not yet confirmed whether charges will be filed and it was not immediately clear if Tyler had a licence or an open-carry permit for the gun.
