Checks on at cop armouries in Jhargram, W Midnapore
Midnapore/Jhargram: Inspection of arms stocked in police station armouries has started across Jhargram and West Midnapore days after 18 single-barrel guns went missing from the Lalgarh PS armoury. The arms belonged to people with valid licences.
Two cops, including SI Tarapada Tudu, and two of their local accomplices were arrested after the matter came to light.
Tudu, who was in charge of the Lalgarh PS armoury, had handed over responsibilities to Biswajit Panja on January 16. After Tudu took up his new posting at Jamboni PS, Panja reported to the Lalgarh IC that 18 guns were missing. Jhargram SP Amitkumar Bharat Rathod said these had not been recovered yet.
The inspections that followed are being led by inspectors or DSPs but are yet to uncover any more discrepancies. Inspectors-in-charge or officers-in-charge of police stations are keeping track of findings by these teams.
West Midnapore SP Dinesh Kumar said: “These inspections are conducted routinely to look for discrepancies in arms stored in police station armouries.”
