HYDERABAD: The body of Dr AK Meena, a neurologist from Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), who died of cardiac arrest while attending a conference at London, arrived in the city on Saturday morning and was kept at NIMS. Health minister Eatela Rajender visited the hospital to pay tributes.
The doctor’s death had triggered widespread concern about doctors neglecting their own health and working under extremely stressful conditions.
In fact, Dr Meena’s death was the fourth such case reported in recent times, with two doctors from the city succumbing within 24 hours.
Dr Meena was given cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately after she collapsed while speaking at a neurology conference. She was rushed to St Bartholomew’s Hospital, but all efforts to revive her failed.
Meanwhile, the doctors community have come up with a list of suggestions to follow in order to avoid a similar condition.
