The dairy-free market continues to expand with new alternatives for consumers who are avoiding traditional milk because of allergies, diets, taste or personal preferences. The latest product launches focus on filling specific niches for shoppers who want to make everything in their kitchen dairy-free.

Dairy-Free Heavy Whipping Cream

Regular heavy whipping cream relies on a combination of whole milk and melted butter. Silk has launched a dairy-free version of heavy whipping cream made with coconut oil, sunflower oil, faba bean protein and guar gum. The product is vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO Project Verified and keto-friendly.

"Silk saw an opportunity for a plant-based heavy whipping cream alternative and wanted to provide an easy swap for those looking to incorporate more dairy-free options into their diet. As America's No. 1 plant-based beverage brand, we see it as our responsibility to create plant-based options that everyone will love and enjoy," David Robinson, senior brand manager for Silk, said.

Dairy-Free Coconut Yogurts

Harmless Harvest has launched an organic, dairy-free coconut yogurt alternative line. The product is made with organic coconut milk, organic cane sugar, organic tapioca starch and live active cultures. Harmless Harvest explains that the coconut yogurt is vegan, soy-free and has 92% Fair Trade content. The company already sells coconut water and snack drinks.

"With this new product line, Harmless Harvest will use the entire coconut for both its water and yogurt alternative, further living its brand promise to always consider its impact from seed to shelf. For more than a decade, Harmless Harvest has sourced coconuts from farms in Thailand. It's a work in progress, but we're consistently striving to do less harm and more good in everything we do," Ben Mand, CEO of Harmless Harvest, said.

Kite Hill also launched dairy-free coconut milk yogurts in six different flavors. They are vegan, non-GMO, soy-free, gluten-free and have no artificial flavors or preservatives. Made with coconut cream, cane sugar and modified tapioca starch, these plant-based alternatives also have live active cultures.

Dairy-Free Market Growth

The global dairy-free market is growing and expected to reach $38.9 billion by 2025. Many of the current plant-based alternatives have almonds, cashews or other nuts, so they are not an option for those with tree nut allergies, which is an important niche. However, Silk and Harmless Harvest have started to offer coconut-based milk alternatives that most people with tree nut allergies can consume. The popularity of vegan diets will continue to encourage the dairy-free market to find more alternatives.
